Triple pay for employees working on April 9

The date falls on 2 regular holidays, namely Maundy Thursday and Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor, the NWPC said.

The Day of Valor honors Filipino and US soldiers who fought side by side in Bataan province during World War II.

Many Catholics do acts of penance and celebrate the traditional "washing of feet" on Maundy Thursday during Holy Week, which commemorates the death of Jesus Christ.

Employees who will report for work on April 9, 2020 should get 300 percent of their daily salary rate, the National Wages and Productivity Commission said Thursday.

Based on Proclamation 845 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in November last year, two regular holidays will fall on April 9: Araw ng Kagitingan and Maundy Thursday.

Meanwhile, those availing of the holidays are entitled to 200% of their daily wage rate.

Maundy Thursday is the fifth day of the Holy Week, wherein Roman Catholics commemorate the “washing of the feet” of Jesus Christ and the Last Supper.

Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) commemorates World War II veterans.

“If you didn’t work, you are entitled to 200 percent of your daily wage rate. If you report to work, you are entitled to 300 percent of your daily wage rate,” NWPC said in a Facebook post.
